Most flame-retardant treatments in this industry are built and tested against FAR 25.853's vertical burn requirement. That's a real standard, and passing it matters — but it's not the same test as OSU 65/65 heat release, which is the standard that most often catches a finished interior part by surprise late in a program. A veneer, adhesive, substrate, and topcoat can each individually meet vertical burn requirements and still fail heat release once assembled together. That gap — between component-level compliance and assembled-part performance — is where most late-stage program delays actually come from.

Real wood or hydrographic — not either/or

Some approaches solve this by replacing real wood with an alternative finish. That's a legitimate path for some programs, but it isn't the only one.
