You CAN NOT simply order a gallon of OFPSI flame retardant. It WILL NOT WORK as a universal remedy.
OFPSI solutions for passing FAR 25.853 vary by materials to be protected, combinations of distinctive materials and coatings, the thickness and layering of different finishes, the timing and sequence of application and possibly a dozen other variables. Each new combination can require experimentation and supplemental testing.
OFPSI has participated in thousands of tests over time and has developed a database of material and finish combinations. However, even starting with familiar combinations may involve some unique circumstances. Every detail about the tested materials is important.
OFPSI has participated in thousands of tests over time and has developed a database of material and finish combinations. However, even starting with familiar combinations may involve some unique circumstances. Every detail about the tested materials is important.
There are two ways to engage OFPSI in finding solutions that will pass FAR 25.853 burn tests:
OFPSI as a service.
Supply OFPSI with the details of the materials, layers and coatings you plan to test along with samples of those materials combined as they will be in production. “Official test samples” will be treated and then sent for testing. Once we receive positive results, we create a process spec and scope of work for the unique solution and provide a related price quote.
We then send a technician to your facility to apply the solution. The blend of the right amount of OFPSI flame retardant and the calculated steps involved in application demand expert precision.
Certifying a technician and licensing OFPSI product to your company.
If your completion, modification and refurbishing team uses a defined combination of materials that require an OFPSI process to pass FAR 25.853 on a regular basis, you may want one of your technicians to earn certification under OFPSI methodology. OFPSI would train, test and certify your representative to perform a very specific application in strict adherence with the process spec and your company would be licensed to regularly purchase OFPSI products for that particular use.
The advantages of having an OFPSI-trained specialist for a unique combination of materials include significant cost savings over time. Your company pays only for the OFPSI product—no travel expenses and labor costs for an OFPSI technician.
