Manufacturers and Completion Centers:
Efficiencies gained by adopting new cover and protect procedures can take a chunk out of production budgets.

VIP completion centerAs you know, the necessary activity of protecting cabin surfaces during construction, completion or refurbishing can represent thousands of man hours. Manufacturers and completion centers often appoint a manager whose only job is to see that interior components are protected during production.

One completion center we work with spends $650,000 annually on cover and protect. The center typically completes two aircraft during that year.

The established protocol of masking and taping is inefficient and often ineffective. The thin material used now can be easily ripped or displaced by worker and component traffic. Protection must be replaced constantly. The rework required on damaged elements can be excruciatingly expensive and repairs mean that the customer doesn’t receive the item in pristine original condition.

The time lost to these incidents can represent even larger financial damage, endangering contracted delivery dates that carry stiff penalties. A VVIP production facility we interviewed acknowledges as much as $3 million a year as a cost of rework.

OFPSI has engineered a superior means of covering and protecting aircraft interiors during maintenance activities. Personnel apply AeroProtect™ liquid and films once, at the beginning of cabin installation and then remove them at aircraft delivery. The coverings apply much faster than taping, withstand more bumps, scrapes and drops, and remove with little effort and no residue or cleanup.

AeroProtect’s self-adhering, breathable, water-based non-VOC coatings can save costly labor hours and reduce project overhead markedly. Cabinetry, tables, bars and other nonporous elements can be painted with a protective coating prior to installation. Safe for precious sealed veneers and painted surfaces, AeroProtect Pro liquid dries to a blue (or optionally clear), resilient, malleable skin that workers can even write on without concern. Portions can be peeled back for work on a specific area, then replaced with protection intact.

AeroProtect’s patented formula permits natural off-gassing during the drying and curing of cabinetry and similarly manufactured furnishings. The product protects for long periods without consequence to delicate surfaces. Cabinetry with precise layers of stains or laser-created “sketch” face panels and clearcoat are shielded from hazards in the environment, but can still “breathe” and stabilize with the off-gassing necessary for a perfect durable finish.

AeroProtect Pro Plus formula liquid offers the perfect shield for non-porous polycarbonate surfaces such as Plexiglas or Lexan windows and mirrors. It sprays on. No cutting to patterns or taping. The project ends with clean, residue-free removal. No blades ever come near these vulnerable surfaces.

Different versions of AeroProtect films, for use where painting or spraying is impractical have been trusted to protect exotic silk carpeting and delicate materials used on walls and ceilings in VVIP aircraft interiors. The tough film defends against soil and scuffing and removes gently without harm to a single fiber. Film can be lifted for access to an object and replaced easily if necessary.

AeroProtect liquids and Pro formula film are “no-static” solutions because there’s no adhesive.

Adhesives can be dangerous to sensitive electronics because they trap static. Workers removing adhesives can transfer enough charge to destroy a touch screen display.

AeroProtect allows static to dissipate. It adheres to surfaces with a system of tiny air pockets that function like micro “suction cups.” Protection can be applied, removed and replaced and discarded with no effect on electronics.

Consider testing AeroProtect. The advantages and savings are too great to ignore. Liquid and film products are available for immediate shipment.

Proceed with caution.

As with any product or substance you introduce into your materials and processes specifications, test AeroProtect products on non-production samples of the surfaces you plan to protect. Consult with OFPSI on your plans for applying the products. Different AeroProtect liquids and films were
developed for specific surfaces and can
cause significant damage if used incorrectly.
